New Rob Bell book

This is almost sad to look at. Watch the trailer.

There is an attractional, almost heartwarming message here about the God of love and about our inner spirituality.

Very appealing.
Rob will have another hit.

But is it true should we forsake the God of our fathers?

As said in the article I’m sure Rob Bell is teasing people to stir up controversy, and sell books. But I’m pretty sure also that he although he will have some good teaching in his book he will make the case do we really follow the Bible strictly or do we adopt this new Christianity.

I found these passages of Scripture from the time of Joshua and in the New Testament to be interesting to this issue.

PS I too drove an Olds but it was my parents…but before unleaded gas.

Jos 24:14    “Now therefore fear the LORD and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness. Put away the gods that your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD.
Jos 24:15    And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the LORD, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”
Jos 24:16    Then the people answered, “Far be it from us that we should forsake the LORD to serve other gods,
Jos 24:17    for it is the LORD our God who brought us and our fathers up from the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, and who did those great signs in our sight and preserved us in all the way that we went, and among all the peoples through whom we passed.
Jos 24:18    And the LORD drove out before us all the peoples, the Amorites who lived in the land. Therefore we also will serve the LORD, for he is our God.”
Jos 24:19    But Joshua said to the people, “You are not able to serve the LORD, for he is a holy God. He is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions or your sins.
Jos 24:20    If you forsake the LORD and serve foreign gods, then he will turn and do you harm and consume you, after having done you good.”
Jos 24:21    And the people said to Joshua, “No, but we will serve the LORD.”
Jos 24:22    Then Joshua said to the people, “You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen the LORD, to serve him.” And they said, “We are witnesses.”
Jos 24:23    He said, “Then put away the foreign gods that are among you, and incline your heart to the LORD, the God of Israel.”
Jos 24:24    And the people said to Joshua, “The LORD our God we will serve, and his voice we will obey.”
Jos 24:25    So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and put in place statutes and rules for them at Shechem.
Jos 24:26    And Joshua wrote these words in the Book of the Law of God. And he took a large stone and set it up there under the terebinth that was by the sanctuary of the LORD.
Jos 24:27    And Joshua said to all the people, “Behold, this stone shall be a witness against us, for it has heard all the words of the LORD that he spoke to us. Therefore it shall be a witness against you, lest you deal falsely with your God.

Mat 7:12    “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
Mat 7:13    “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many.
Mat 7:14    For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.
Mat 7:15    “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are

2Pe 2:1    But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction.

1Jn 2:26    I write these things to you about those who are trying to deceive you.

1Th 2:3    For our appeal does not spring from error or impurity or any attempt to deceive,
1Th 2:4    but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not to please man, but to please God who tests our hearts.

Rev 20:7    And when the thousand years are ended, Satan will be released from his prison
Rev 20:8    and will come out to deceive the nations that are at the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them for battle; their number is like the sand of the sea.
