The Doctrine of Election

I posted a comment to one of Mike Ratliff’s posts today.

Short but clear. I noticed you have it filed under the doctrine of election. Your posts there date back to 2008. Some good reading in there.

John 15 of course builds on what Jesus taught back in John 6. If readers are interested the old Dr. S. Lewis Johnson sermons, beginning here, are useful on the subject as are his topical series on election. There are 4 sermons on these key verses, on John 6 beginning here.

He pretty clearly teaches the hard reality, which preachers today often skip over. Everything between these verses.

John 6:36 But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not.

John 6:66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.

But with a lot of hope given in between and after……

John 6:67-69 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? 68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. 69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.

Can’t get any clearer: “…we believe and are sure…..”

Jesus then adds….

Jhn 6:70  Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?
