Read an interesting article this morning. I would say from my perspective this is one of the major influences of where the “visible” church has evolved in the past 40 years. I can personally relate to studying and even teaching some of the mystical practices discussed. Much of that I left behind, but I’m probably the only one of my church, friends and family to do so.
Even today I wonder at the influence of some of these leaders. Our new pastor, wrote is dissertation under Lead Mentor: Leonard I. Sweet, PhD.
I looked up the link about Sweet and read the last post but that was twelve years ago.
His Primary Advisor: David McDonald, DMin had Sweet write the forward to his book in 2017. And more currently on McDonald’s own website Sweet describes him:
STORYTELLER. TEAM BUILDER. COACH.
“David McDonald is the most creative pastor in the US today…An erupting volcano of energy and creativity, he is at the same time a winsome, upbeat human being who is able to bring harmony out of conflict, hope and learning out of disasters (we had a few), and I count it my privilege to have studied with him. I learned as much if not more from him as he from me.”
— Leonard Sweet, Charles Wesley Distinguished Professor of Doctoral Studies, Eastern University, E. Stanley Jones Emeritus Professor and Distinguished Professor, Drew University, Distinguished Visiting Professor, George Fox University and Portland Seminary
Sounds like new words and terms but the continuing emergent movement. Someday this will make an interesting discussion.
