Well my commitment to daily devotions lasted half the day. In the evening I watched a movie, ate ice cream and forgot the second readings.
I did catch up today, good thoughts about men praying.
And the Spurgeon morning passage, had an interesting John Bunyan quote..
This line, “Art thou of the family of old Father Honest, or art thou a relative of Mr. By-ends?” is a quote from John Bunyan’s allegorical novel, “The Pilgrim’s Progress,” and is used to ask someone if they are a person of true, unwavering integrity (“Father Honest”) or if they are someone who changes their beliefs based on convenience or social pressure (“Mr. By-ends”) – essentially, a test of their moral character.

Update 11/15/24
Still struggling with Evening. Had a wonderful dinner at good friends last night, but it was 10 o’clock 🕙 by the time I got home. Again too tired to work through my last two chapters of M’Cheyne and read Spurgeon. So I am doubling up this morning.
Spurgeon’s connected his pass quote to Repentance which is so hard to admit. We have been and will continue to pray for God drawing our political leaders and now brings Trump specifically to himself, in to the fellowship of both the visible and invisible church, the Biblical Gospel is revealed, and that he able to see his own sin, is given a repentant heart, and can express a creditable profession of faith.
Five times repenting is mentions in the Book of Acts.
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
And we know that…
John 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
Paul makes a very good summary of the gospel in 1 Corinthians 15.
1 Corinthians 15:1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
1 Corinthians 15:2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
Anyway I wander here is the first part of Spurgeon’s reading. 11/14.
