Current Events and Politics, Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones, Faith and Christianity, Sunday School - Revelation

A note to the Revelation Class

I posted this note to the members of the Sunday School Class I was in the past few months. Btw…it has nothing to do with that study, but more about current events which were discussed on the sidelines.

Some of you may find the follow interesting, it’s another perspective on the Tariff issue Mark mentioned in class and I sent a followup note earlier..Please don’t feel you have to read this….it is Easter week. I also saw that the White House will be celebrating the Christian holiday all week. But that’s a much bigger discussion and might relate to the little book you’re going to do next.

I have very mixed feelings about the Faith Council and people behind it, especially Paul White. I have not seen people and particularly Trump, making what is typically described as a “Credible Profession of Faith”. That is something we can all pray for everyone. But it has to begin with God the Father and as we celebrate Christ’s work on the Cross, His blood shed for us, and the Holy Spirits work in bringing us to respond to the effectual call….

Recently I started following Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones 60 years ago sermons on Ephesians, might make a good future study, but with 232 sermons would take about 5-6 years. It is amazing how rich Ephesian’s is…here is an example in the KJV, which I find reads the best. (Highlights added)

Ephesians 1:3-12 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: 4According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. 7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace

8 Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence; 9 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: 10 That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him: 11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: 12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.

To that I just note that almost 400 years ago the Westminster Divines characterized our response to be:

Larger Catechism

Q. 1. What is the chief and highest end of man?
A. Man’s chief and highest end is to glorify God, and fully to enjoy him forever.

Shorter Catechism

Q. 1. What is the chief end of man?
A. Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.

I read the following article from an author I’ve followed for years. Sometimes our problem in America is we don’t know our own history.. I think this provides good background on our current Tariff discussions. One might almost say T. Jefferson was the first MAGA president…though he never used that term. It’s surprising how so much has changed in the past 100 years..

Once again, I enjoyed being with you in the Revelation class, I’m planning to take a break so will not be continuing, enjoy the spring and summer.
