Useful Second Part to Commentary on Angels….

I had to look up the term, and I can’t seem to see any Biblical basis to worship or even pray to angels.

I am wondering just how many today are actually some form of Modern Socinians…..within even our churches.

Btw, Angel’s are real, and I have no problem praying the Lord’s Prayer that God would provide their invisible protection helping to keep us from Temptation and Evil forces working all around us.

Let’s get our understanding and doctrines correct.

AI Overview

Socinians were members of a 16th- and 17th-century Christian movement, named after the Italian theologian Fausto Sozzini (or Socinus), that rejected core Christian doctrines like the Trinity, original sin, and the substitutionary atonement. They emphasized the importance of moral behavior, reason in interpreting scripture, and religious toleration. Socinianism was a precursor to modern Unitarianism

Key features of Socinianism:

  • Rejection of the Trinity:Socinians believed in one God but denied the doctrine of the Trinity, where God is conceived as three co-equal persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit).
  • Rejection of Atonement:They rejected the idea that Christ’s death on the cross was a sacrifice that satisfied God’s wrath and atoned for human sins.
  • Emphasis on Moralism:Socinians stressed the importance of living a righteous life and obeying Christ’s teachings.
  • Importance of Reason:They believed that reason should be used to interpret scripture and understand Christian doctrine.
  • Advocacy for Religious Toleration:Socinians were strong advocates for religious freedom and separation of church and state.
  • Influence on Unitarianism:The Socinian movement is considered a precursor to modern Unitarianism, which shares many of the same theological positions.

Genesis 48:16 The Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.

Old John Gill wrote:

The Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads,…. Ephraim and Manasseh, now about twenty years old or upwards: this is not to be understood of a created angel he wishes to be their guardian, but of an eternal one, the Son of God, the Angel of God’s presence, the Angel of the covenant; the same with the God of his father before mentioned, as appears by the character he gives him, as having “redeemed him from all evil”; not only protected and preserved him from temporal evils and imminent dangers from Esau, Laban, and others; but had delivered him from the power, guilt, and punishment of sin, the greatest of evils, and from the dominion and tyranny of Satan the evil one, and from everlasting wrath, ruin, and damnation; all which none but a divine Person could do, as well as he wishes, desires, and prays, that he would “bless” the lads with blessings temporal and spiritual, which a created angel cannot do; and Jacob would never have asked it of him:
