Spiritual Blindness

The Verses earlier In Jeremiah often come to mind also…

Jer 6:16  Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

Jer 6:17  Also I set watchmen over you, saying, Hearken to the sound of the trumpet. But they said, We will not hearken.

I suggest reading the whole of Chapter 6.

In my M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan, we’re reading much about the stubbornness of people and God’s Judgement. Note that one reads that more clearly in the KJV than our modern texts. I posted this comment a while back to another of Mike’s posts.

Judgment or Judgments occur in 329 verses in the O.T. And another 79 in the N.T. If you look at one of the better modern translations the ESV, they are used in only 122 verses in the O.T. But surprisingly still 75 in the N.T. A lot of those O.T. Verses now read justice (120) in the ESV, while that word is used only 28 times in the KJV.

Working with this area is so difficult for my communication. Distinguishing between the fully Heretical, and the False Teaching and multiple “Other” Gospels is so hard when they are often mixed with shades of “Truth” and even more often promoted among each other and wildly successful in the Pragmatic sense.

From the beginning what was wrong to do looked both good and was done with a good intent:

Genesis 3:6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

There are several sites I read that have lists of “False Teachers” or almost false teachers. But it takes great discernment to know how to use such information. I noticed Mike did not name any names, but we know from Scripture that the walk of truth is a narrow way.

Mat 7:12  Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.

Mat 7:13  Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

Mat 7:14  Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Mat 7:15  Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

The other day I reposted a good letter on this difficult subject written by John Newton many years ago..

Enjoy Mike’s original post that start my thinking on this subject.
