Women tend to do prayer more readily….than men.
I liked the Calvin quote (highlighted) and here is the first part of the Heidelberg Catechism he mentioned, I noted we are all students even out of the classroom, and it seems to reflect the Prayer for Knowledge, Wisdom and Understanding that Paul gave in Ephesians 1.
PRAYER
45. SUNDAY
116. Why is prayer necessary for Christians?
Because it is the chief part of thankfulness which God requires of us;1 and because God will give His grace and Holy Spirit only to those who earnestly and without ceasing beg them of Him, and render thanks unto Him for them.2
1 Ps 50:14,15. 2 Matt 7:7,8. Luke 11:9,10,13. Matt 13:12. * Eph 6:18.
When I began spending more time with the Lord’s Prayer, I decided to memorize the open words of Jesus also.
Mat 6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Reminds me that it’s a command and not just an answer to a question.
Paul has this fairly long prayer after his introduction in Ephesians 1
Thanksgiving and Prayer
Eph 1:15 Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints,
Eph 1:16 Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;
Eph 1:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
Eph 1:18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
Eph 1:19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
Eph 1:20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
Eph 1:21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:
Eph 1:22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,
Eph 1:23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
Much more about that and other things in the Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones study Patti and I are doing….(warning it’s a bit long…5 years)
When You Pray

And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. (Matt 6:5–6)
