Catch of the Week, Faith and Christianity, John Bunyan

Solus Christus

I found Mike’s post in this morning’s reading interesting and useful to reflect upon….

I even commented on it. It may not be included yet. But this is what I said:

  • Mike you make these truths so vivid and clear. Too bad there is no chance that you can get a job as the screenwriter for the Chosen or House of David series…
  • BTW. If you ever have time an interesting series would extend this discussion to the errors of all those pathways that a modern John Bunyan might have Christian tempted to stray off on to. Maybe sort of a modern update of Walter Martin’s Kingdom of the Cults, but with both historical errors and modern errors. I’m talking about a more exhaustive summary of the multitude errors all the way back in the OT to the time of Jesus and the early church up until today….maybe into the future if one includes the descriptions in Revelation.
  • ”Pelagianism, WOF, and the growing apostasy in our churches do not seem to have much of a relationship.” You also mentioned Semi-Pelagianism, I would include Arminianism, flowing those forward until today with the many groups that have world wide influence. I’m pretty sure you could articulate most of them. Forms and Degrees of false worship have been around since the beginning.
  • My wife and I are in 1 & 2 Kings in our Bible reading together and it’s struck me that there were so many bad kings, and that even the good Kings, almost always did not take down the High Places. Often even going so far as saying they were trying to worship the true God, Yahweh, the LORD in their false man made ways. So sad. 😞 we need a Savior.
  • The old Geneva Bible says it this way in updated English:
  • Matthew 7:137:13 {5} Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide [is] the gate, and broad [is] the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:(5) The example of life must not be taken from the multitude.
  • Matthew 7:147:14 Because {c} strait [is] the gate, and narrow [is] the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.(c) The way is straight and narrow: we must pass through this rough way and suffer, endure, be changed and so enter into life.
  • Matthew 7:157:15 {6} Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.(6) False teachers must be taken heed of: and they are known by false doctrine and evil living.
  • This even extends to so many world religions that range from millions to even billions of followers….each believing they have the correct way….if one thinks about it, the gate is very wide indeed. With some even saying that all such paths are the way to truth or God….or to be like or become gods ourselves.
  • John 14:5-6 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? 6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. KJV
  • Solus Christus– Salvation is found in Christ alone. As Acts 4:12 says, “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
  • It is interesting that today a significant majority of the World’s population, knows of Jesus. And many even the gospel. But which Jesus and which gospel. That’s a deeper question.
  • Martha often gets the short stick in comparison to Mary, but I think scripture teaches that though she busied herself in the often quoted text, he also listened and understood great teaching:
  • John 11:27 She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.
