I guess my time allows one more look at an avenue of false direction. Let’s think of John Bunyan’s Christian facing all the side paths on his journey along the Narrow Way in Pilgrim’s Progress.
Mat 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
Mat 7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
I actually bought the Yungen Book a few years ago. It’s worth reading. I don’t agree with everything on the Lighthouse site, but this is one of the good posts.
And it serves as a visible example of men leading men astray.
I actually for a season myself was heavily into the contemplative world. Not so much the Eastern side, but the more recent modern rediscovered “Christian Mysticism”, I still know several people who call themselves Spiritual Directors. And along the way a read and even taught about the teachings of some of these men, though the Foster/Willard influences.
I was into that phase of my Christian life from the late 1980’s for almost 20 years. With the high point in teaching and practice in the early 2000’s. It’s really only the past 20 years that I’ve turned much more towards understanding the Traditional Reformed Protestant view and appreciating the older Protestant texts, from the KJV Bible, Geneva Bible vs. todays minority text Bibles, the old Presbyterian and Reformed Confessions and Catechisms, and those that focus on teaching them.
Anyway, hoping you find something useful in this article.
