The famous quip attributed to comedian W.C. Fields, a known cynic and heavy drinker, occurred when he was found reading a Bible late in life. When asked what he was doing, Fields replied “I’m looking for loopholes” a humorous nod to finding legalistic ways around divine judgment.
Repentance…..that’s a useful word.
John Bunyan has an old work about how “Profession” alone has its problems…I should probably read that again.
