Edited 4/4/2024 new Will Kinney links….in the comments.
Someone in my Westminster Confession Study Class sent me the links to the discussion which I am reposting below. If you have never heard the issues, perhaps take the time to listen or read the text.
My thinking is we can not persuade anyone…The modern view is too entrenched in our churches these 50 years….and in the seminaries. From my own perspective…I never picked the KJV up until 2013….a little over 4 years ago. Would never go back. I had previously switched from RSV to NASB to NIV to ESB based on the “common” recommendations. I actually started blogging on my Bible reading based on the ESV back in 2009. My reading took on more earnest in 2012 when I began the 10 Lists Reading Program…..and I now have some 8,000 chapters read under that plan.
Only the smallest part sticks though.
I can’t say for certain but I think the Holy Spirit has to change someone to the KJV. Best we can do is a faithful witness, and perhaps having someone in your group actually reading it helps. Once you begin actually looking at the debates and issues, it becomes more convincing….but not without the Spirit’s help. Definitely a minority remnant position, except for the comment Will Kinney makes quoting that actual Bible readers do read the KJV more often.
I’m not sure how one measures that….I know a lot of folks who do open their Bibles of the other versions. Maybe there is a threshold of use somewhere at which the KJV becomes the majority.
I did look that up here….apparently it’s real. Unless these are Fake News!
Anyway the audio below or the text article is revealing…even if it’s not going to convince anyone.
At least you can see the sides of the discussion. I’m not going to tell anyone not to read their modern Bible….but then again I am going to try to be ready to give this side:
(1Pe 3:15) But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
Of course then I’m applying that text out of context….since it really applies to the Gospel. But I like what Gill says:
“…but that he should be well acquainted with the ground and foundation of the Christian religion; at least, with the first principles of the oracles of God, and be conversant with the Scriptures, and be able to point out that in them, which is the reason of his holding this and the other truth, though he is not able to give a gainsayer satisfaction, or to stop his mouth: and this is to be done with meekness and fear; with meekness, before men; in an humble modest way; not with an haughty air, and in a morose and surly manner, which serves only to irritate and provoke: and with fear…”
So be it…
Why do you King James Only People Divide the Church and Attack The Bible?

2026 update…I’ve studied in and about the KJV since 2013 now, almost 13 years…I’ve added a great respect for the Geneva Bible 1599 also.
If you read the Ripplinger Book it will be difficult but I’ve read and studied enough over the last 20 years that many of the names and concepts she quotes from are familiar. From my perspective some of the comparisons of text on the surface don’t look substantial, but as I read though it I could see the subtle differences being emphasized. I really didn’t realize how unbiblical the views of Westcott and Hort we were and how the interconnects of all the Mystics, Eastern religions, and New Age were. Many names were familiar….and represent a bizarre perspective on spirituality. It reminds me of the text Paul wrote in Ephesians 6:
Ephesians 6:10-20 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; 19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
It is a battle.

Someone made this good comment…
This book flipped me on my head.

The only thing more laughable than the negative reviews about this product is the fact that clearly most of them actually never read the book in its entirety. This book made me a die-hard King James Only Bible Believer. If you approach this with an open heart and a willingness to be corrected, you will be too. I was raised to believing that anything goes when it comes to Bible translations, and when my friends first started going to a KJV only church, I though it was, to be quite honest, a little bit laughable, even misinformed and stupid. But the first time I went, I was blown away. I hadn’t even heard anything about books like this, but I could tell that something was different about this church than the one I usually attended. On an impulse, I purchased a small KJB at the local bookstore on my way home, and since then my life has never been the same. I actually enjoyed my devotional life for the first time, and didn’t have to force myself to pick up my Bible and read a Psalm or something (Psalm 117 was my favorite for a while). Now, after my parents forced me to stop going to that church come back to their church, I would often find some excuse to leave and go to the bathroom or stop a coughing fit just so I could sit down in an unused room and read my Bible. Then, I started talking to my pastor about the KJV and he lent me this book. I got about 10 pages in when I made up my mind to get my own copy. I purchased a number of other books from G.A. Riplinger in defense of the KJB (also all highly recommended), and if something you want answered is covered in this book, I guarantee that it’s covered somewhere in one of her other books, especially in Blind Guides, a specific defense of her work against detractors such as James White, David Cloud, and many others. And by the way, she hasn’t ever taught home ec, never claimed to be inspired, and never said that she has no clue of Greek and Hebrew (she has a very extensive knowledge of them actually, which is obvious if you read the book). If I missed any other big ones, they’re probably not true either. If you want a basic summary of her work, check our her website, […]and her short biography[…]l. If you don’t like taking people’s word for things who don’t have all the degrees and such (me), take the word of linguistic professors at Ivy League schools bearing out Riplinger’s work In Awe of Thy Word, a book about the mystery and history of the KJB, also a very highly recommended read, which also answers many other questions you probably have, especially if you’ve heard lies about Erasmus and the Textus Receptus like he was a Roman Catholic priest, only used a few Greek manuscripts from the 10th century, used the Vulgate, etc. If I missed anything, you can bet she didn’t.
And I’ve heard David Daniel’s who is quoted in the intro previously…I like what he says…
This book is the result of an exhaustive six year collation of new Bible versions, their underlying Greek manuscripts, editions, and editors. It objectively and methodically documents the hidden alliance between new versions and the New Age Movement’s One World Religion. Mrs. Riplinger’s 6-year investigation of Bible texts and translations led her to unlock the more sinister aspects to the creation of a Common “bible” based on the Alexandrian perverted texts. Very detailed, and better to read after reading some other available books. Then you will be able to understand her better. David Daniels
