Being distracted from MY Bible Reading

A friend and I recently got into a bit of a dialogue over The nature of bloggers on the Internet being critical. I don’t go into the details, but he made some good points and I do fall into the trap of looking more than I should at the negative. I try to justify it by saying we spend way too much time ignoring the negative or putting our heads in the sand, which though true is just an excuse. It gets more severe when we emphasis the negative. I am glad I don’t Tweet or look at that media….it’s even worse.

Anyway he mentioned that he disagrees with something said by almost everyone including me, using the “YOU” in caps word. So I responded. Hopefully, in jest and good humor, while agreeing that real Hearsay is a concern. If you read this you may miss the nuisances of the conversation, but hopefully there are a couple of good points….without being overly negative.

Meanwhile help those many who lost much in the California Fires and Pray for the Berkeley student in the news.

……, YOU are SOOOO funny! Strange you would mention Keller and MacArthur in the same breath. BUT THAT’S A DIFFERENT DISCUSSION.

Anyway, I’m not good enough to or PURPOSED enough to try to justify the Wingnut.

But on his same site there is a Paul Washer clip about MacArthur. 2 minutes

Paul Washer on John MacAurthur

John Fullerton MacArthur Jr. is an American pastor and author known for his internationally syndicated Christian teaching radio program.

I don’t think the video is critical. (He had mentioned someone who criticized MacArthur in his note to me.)

Your point I think is clear… before being critical.

It has to rise to the level of heresy, to deny the Incarnation, the cross and substitutionary death, burial and God’s act of raising Jesus from the dead,

But there is a whole lot of other stuff being sold out there, not just on the Internet.

Just look at all the books of near death trips to heaven, all the faith healing for dollars, and even the sales and spins of the latest seminary professor’s pet dissertation or research theories, or new Bible version. (Publish or perish…and it’s got to be something knew or catchy to sell.) Book sales, songs, videos, conferences, concerts….we are entertaining whatever the latest and greatest that tickles our ears and eyes. And everybody makes money on it.

It’s also true that while everybody including YOU say something we disagree with, they do also say somethings we do AGREE with. The trouble is discernment. And the risks on both sides are faulty logic (who takes that course today) and out of context, cherry 🍒 picking….. and of course denying the truth, if not outright lying, which seems rampart. And sometimes it’s not just what is said or taught but what is not.

BTW….I’m sure you saw this in the news. Probably good advice.

University staff told not to use capital letters
Journalism professors at Leeds Trinity University in the UK have been instructed not to use certain words in case they frighten sensitive students.
Journalism professors at Leeds Trinity University in the UK have been instructed not to use certain words — in case they frighten sensitive students.
According to UK media reports, the use of capital letters has been banned as well as the “overuse” of the words “do” and “don’t”.
In an internal staff memo obtained by the Express, staff are told students’ “anxiety” can lead to academic failure.
“Despite our best attempts to explain assessment tasks, any lack of clarity can generate anxiety and even discourage students from attempting the assessment at all,” it reads.
“Generally, avoid using capital letters for emphasis and the overuse of ‘do’, and, especially, ‘DON’T’.

As for perhaps something a bit more Heretical, try the following which is quite popular today. (It has to be true though since God is a God of LOVE ❤️ right?)

Btw…I absolutely don’t agree with everything posted on that site. Did I miss the point on this one too? Or is it a valid concern.

And error, It’s been a problem from the beginning….

Genesis 3:1  Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

Truth and Error.

Jos 24:14  Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD.

Jos 24:15  And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

Jos 24:16  And the people answered and said, God forbid that we should forsake the LORD, to serve other gods;

How did that work out for them?

Jeremiah 6:16  Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

Luk 24:44  And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

Luk 24:45  Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,

Luk 24:46  And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:

Luk 24:47  And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

Mat 28:18  And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

Mat 28:19  Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Mat 28:20  Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

So we both agree God is Sovereign or as S. Lewis Johnson said “Sovereignly, Sovereign”, and his will extends to both the end and the means.

Keep up the good work….

Shorter Catechism
