This was my own comment I posted back to Mike.
Mike, those verses are among my cherished favorites, which I quote often. You might also note that Paul confirms his apostolic call and affirms that the Old Testament scriptures have a key role in revealing Jesus Christ even before his incarnation. This is found in the opening text:
Rom 1:1 Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,
Rom 1:2 (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,)
Rom 1:3 Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;
Rom 1:4 And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:
Rom 1:5 By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name:
Although Paul was not with the disciples when Jesus spoke with them back in Luke 24 he clearly was a part of this group after his specific call by Jesus and follows the pattern Jesus set down here:
Luk 24:44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
Luk 24:45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
Luk 24:46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
Luk 24:47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Luk 24:48 And ye are witnesses of these things.
BTW: I prefer the text in the old KJV for verse 16, which explicitly confirms just which gospel Paul is preaching. One can see that of course in the context of other translations, but with so many “other” gospels, it’s not bad to actually point it out. G5547 Χριστός Christos khris-tos’

I originally memorized the verse in the ESV, and still struggle to remember to add that it is the Good News of the gospel of Christ when I share it.
(KJV) For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
