I’m catching up on reading Mike’s posts…

I can really see how these are linked. But it does seem in true believers not false professors, hat by God’s saving grace alone, one being drawn to faith in Christ will grow in repentance, and turning to see Christ as Lord, as well as have themselves prepared for their Good Works. I see this as a natural outcome of their being given faith. It does appear that the Bible does speak about dimensions of faith….there is a range of simple Great Faith to times of little faith. Those Jesus interacted with were characterized with these terms.

BTW. I do prefer the KJV translators version of Mike’s last quote:

Mat 28:18  And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

Mat 28:19  Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Mat 28:20  Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

I know making disciples involves teaching and instructing, but the modern translation imply that we make disciples, I rather prefer to see God calling and making disciples, engaging us in the process via teaching each other what the Bible teaches us.

The Geneva Bible note has it this way:

Matthew 28:19

28:19 {5} Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them {f} in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit:

(5) The sum of the apostleship is the proclaiming of the doctrine received from Christ throughout all the world, and the ministering of the sacraments: the efficacy of which things depends not on the minsters but on the Lord.

(f) Calling upon the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
