Today’s reading includes the version of the Lord’s Prayer I memorized and use.
Mat 6:9-13
9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
I’ve memorized that introduction which often gets skipped.
10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
It is often my practice to visualize and ask for some specific need as my daily bread, it doesn’t just have to be flour and water, it could be a successful surgery some other need that God can provide for in his Grace if we just ask.
Mat 7:7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
The Chapter ends with these comforting verses..
Mat 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Mat 6:34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
Righteousness is an amazing theme, lets remember:
Mat 5:20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Paul uses the word righteousness 39 times in Romans.
Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
Rom 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
Rom 4:6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,
As a new creation born again in Christ we have this righteousness, that is not our doing but his.
Eph 4:24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
Eph 5:9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)
Eph 6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
Some good thoughts to mediate upon.
BTW I’m really getting a lot out of listening to the Psalms in the KJV version being sung by this group. I looked for something like this a number of years ago and didn’t find it. It’s nice to be able to listen and follow along with the Text.
I’ve downloaded them to Apple Music and made a full playlist. But you can use the website or the links too.
Check out Psalm 6, today’s.
King James Version
1 O Lord, rebuke me not in thine anger, neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.
2 Have mercy upon me, O Lord; for I am weak: O Lord, heal me; for my bones are vexed.
3 My soul is also sore vexed: but thou, O Lord, how long?
4 Return, O Lord, deliver my soul: oh save me for thy mercies’ sake.
5 For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks?
6 I am weary with my groaning; all the night make I my bed to swim; I water my couch with my tears.
7 Mine eye is consumed because of grief; it waxeth old because of all mine enemies.
8 Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity; for the Lord hath heard the voice of my weeping.
9 The Lord hath heard my supplication; the Lord will receive my prayer.
10 Let all mine enemies be ashamed and sore vexed: let them return and be ashamed suddenly.
