Matthew 12 – Justice or Judgment?

In today’s church the common word in many sermons and contexts is Justice. You can look up all the ways this is used and preached.

What seems to be missing is the word Judgment.
Here in Matthew 12 we see that word used 6 times, as well as, the three times in the prior two chapters, spoken from the same topical context.

Mat 10:15  Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.

Mat 11:22  But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.

Mat 11:24  But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.

Mat 12:18  Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles.

Mat 12:20  A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory.

Mat 12:27  And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges.

Mat 12:36  But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

Mat 12:41  The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.

Mat 12:42  The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.

Judgment true sees to be the forgotten doctrine….as priority is given to verse such as:

Mat 7:1  Judge not, that ye be not judged.

But the Bible is unite clear there is a Judgment, and it’s not our to hand out but God will do so in his Soverignty.

In the meantime, we are still called to discernment….if not judging men and less discerning false teaching and doctrine.

There was a useful article I read earlier here that provides some insight.:
