Just quickly, the other three chapters of yesterday’s reading are very uplifting Psalm 103 has great words of praise, blessing and glory to God. I covered Revelation 13 in my prior post. DEVOTIONAL READINGS, M’CHEYNE BIBLE READING NOTES
The three great feasts of Israel are described again in Deuteronomy 16. Two of these are a full week long, and the middle one is known to be seven weeks from first.
There is a time to remember and compassion not to leave any out.
Deuteronomy 16:12 Gill
And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in Egypt,…. And now delivered from that bondage; the consideration of which should make them liberal in their freewill offering, and generous in the feast they provided, and compassionate to the stranger, widow, and fatherless:
and thou shalt observe and do these statutes; concerning the passover, the feast of unleavened bread, and of Pentecost, and the peace offerings and the freewill offerings belonging to them: and nothing could more strongly oblige them to observe them than their redemption from their bondage in Egypt; as nothing more engages to the performance of good works than the consideration of our spiritual and eternal redemption by Christ, 1Co 6:19.
Also note the specific call for men to step up and participate….
Deu 16:16 Three times in a year shall all thy males appear before the LORD thy God in the place which he shall choose; in the feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles: and they shall not appear before the LORD empty:
Deu 16:17 Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD thy God which he hath given thee.
Plus the always present call to avoid false gods and forms of worship.
Forbidden Forms of Worship
Deu 16:21 Thou shalt not plant thee a grove of any trees near unto the altar of the LORD thy God, which thou shalt make thee.
Deu 16:22 Neither shalt thou set thee up any image; which the LORD thy God hateth.
Isa 43:10 Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.
Isa 43:11 I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour.
Isa 43:12 I have declared, and have saved, and I have shewed, when there was no strange god among you: therefore ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, that I am God.
