John 5 – Another echo of this important truth about the Scriptures.

I’ve mentioned often the teaching in our Old Testament course that that the understanding of the Scriptures can not be had without seeing that it’s purpose is to reveal Jesus Christ. We have two more comments in this chapter that support this.

John 5:39  Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

Joh 5:45  Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust.

Joh 5:46  For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me.

Joh 5:47  But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

Remember our source text originally was:

Luk 24:44  And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

Luk 24:45  Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,

Luk 24:46  And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:

Luk 24:47  And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

Luk 24:48  And ye are witnesses of these things.
