There are several points to be reflected upon in this chapter, so let’s focus as we approach Easter and Passover this week on the reality of who Christ is:
Luk 9:18 And it came to pass, as he was alone praying, his disciples were with him: and he asked them, saying, Whom say the people that I am?
Luk 9:19 They answering said, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others say, that one of the old prophets is risen again.
Luk 9:20 He said unto them, But whom say ye that I am? Peter answering said, The Christ of God.
Luk 9:21 And he straitly charged them, and commanded them to tell no man that thing;
Luk 9:22 Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day.
This is a message that is as critical to our preaching and sharing today as it was 2,000 years ago.
Luk 24:44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
Luk 24:45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
Luk 24:46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
Luk 24:47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Luk 24:48 And ye are witnesses of these things.
That’s probably enough for now..but in today’s readings we have Exodus 3 also. Which recounts Moses encountering the pre-incarnation of Christ.
Exodus 3:14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
And He, explained to Moses all that He would do to save His people from Egypt.
it’s this same Moses we read about in the transfiguration encounter.
Luke 9:30 And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias:
And this same Jesus who will be sacrificed as our Passover Lamb.
My wife and I are doing a Christian online Seder today put on by the Jews for Jesus. It is interesting that in these aspects of my reading, as delayed as it is being only on day 53, are so timely for the season.
