It is difficult for me to post on this topic as I was actually a follower of Richard Foster and Dallas Willard back in the later 80’s and 90’s, Even teaching Foster books along with one of our pastors in an adult Sunday School class for several years. I also once made a nice Book Mark for one friend, with the emphasis on Lectio and Reading with the Heart. Surprisingly, I was never really happy with that and ended up making another about Reading Scripture with the Mind and Context.
Though reading a number of authors raising biblical concerns I eventually turned toward a more traditional reformed approach to faith. I still read articles that try to articulate what the biblical issues are. Below is a link to the latest. Admittedly a difficult read for those convinced that Spiritual Formation and Spiritual Direction as being taught the last 50 years is the new Way of Faith….though actually the old way. I have many friends and family that still follow these paths with the idea that it leads them deeper into faith. I encourage all to read these perspectives. But it’s not my primary objective to convince anyone, but I pray that a full Biblical understanding of faith is given them.
The Mystical Aspects if truly Rooted in the Desert Fathers, the Roman Catholic Church, especially Jesuit teaching and Ignatius Loyola, Eastern Religion Practices, Gnostic Teaching, etc…hopefully most already understand is not a correct Biblical Way of Understanding our Faith.
Most everyone I know has a good intent to go deeper into faith which is a good thing. But Good Discernment is a part of this. Anyway, I encourage all to read and think on these things.
