What are our Worldviews….

Two good articles that followup with concerns within the Christian Community.

These supplement the 90% statistic of the Barna summary earlier this year….

As the nation marks its 250th anniversary, the report shows that the deeply biblical faith that shaped its founding no longer holds majority standing in the American mind. In fact, just half of U.S. adults (50%) believe God is the all-powerful, all-knowing, perfect and just Creator of the universe who rules it today. Other foundational beliefs have also shifted.

Barna, veteran researcher and author of the study, pointed to a broader drift behind the numbers. “Americans meander through life with a broad assortment of vague religious beliefs and volatile religious behaviors. That religious amnesia has produced a nation where the dominant worldview—adopted by nine out of 10 adults—is Syncretism, not biblical Christianity.”

Terms mentioned to note are Ecumenicalism, Syncretism and being Missional (in Mike’s article).

“Back in 2012, I wrote a column titled Should Christians hold prayer vigils with apostates? where I examined syncretism’s encroachment into the visible Church. Syncretism occurs when different beliefs or practices are blended to create something new—in short, when ingredients are mixed without a recipe. (I used the metaphor of grocery shopping for “syncretism stew” ingredients.) Ecumenism primarily focuses on Christian unity, such as efforts to unite Christians and Muslims through interfaith dialogue. “While both deal with religion, syncretism is broader, encompassing culture and philosophy. Ecumenism is more specifically focused on Christian unity, though it can extend to interfaith dialogue.””

Also this article sounds like it’s worth reading the book for some history on Dominionism…
