Accepted in the beloved

Great read. To the praise of his glory!
The whole section is rich. I have highlight on almost every verse, which don’t show in the comments.

Ephesians 1:3-14 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: 4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; 8 Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence; 9 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: 10 That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him: 11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: 12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. 13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

C. H. Spurgeon devotion from his Morning by Morning for September 23.

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: 4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. Ephesians 1:3-6 (KJV)

WHAT a state of privilege! It includes our justification before God, but the term acceptance” in the Greek means more than that. It signifies that we are the objects of divine complacence, nay, even of divine delight. How marvellous that we, worms…

Life and Peace

Looking forward to your comments on Mead. My small reading group did that book maybe 15 years ago. Along with some lesser Bunyan works.

6 τὸ γὰρ φρόνημα τῆς σαρκὸς θάνατος, τὸ δὲ φρόνημα τοῦ πνεύματος ζωὴ καὶ εἰρήνη· Romans 8:6 (NA28)

6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but he mind set on the Spirit is life and peace. Romans 8:6 (translated from the NA28 Greek text)

Discernment work is no fun. I wonder at some who seem to thrive on it. I do not. I will take up the sword when necessary and will not hesitate to take that firm stand, but my heart yearns for that time of peace like I am in right now as I am working my way through Romans 8:1-11 in light of my reading Matthew Mead’s The Almost Christian Discovered. The other side of discernment work for me is dealing with the inevitable spiritual assaults that come through our enemy’s servants. Their nagging little cuts and slices are nothing…

Signs we are close to the time of the end

Mike’s discussion raises some serious issues. And the passages in the Bible about persecution are numerous. As for Revelation, I have not found a more complete study of that book, than what Dr. Steven Dilday has done. You can get an introduction from his translation work from Heidegger’s Bible Handbook: Revelation: Inscription, which is here: https://www.fromreformationtoreformation.com/post/heidegger-s-bible-handbook-revelation-inscription

The work comes at the conclusion of his NT Class and goes on for 4 parts, with the class lesson video and notes.

He also has two longer Revelation studies, including his current translation of Matthew Poole’s work….where his latest posting this July was Rev 9:12.

That work is now linked back to 5 years of sermons which can be found on Sermon Audio. I highly recommend these, but must advise the study is extremely detail, verse by verses, with a lot of review in each lesson. He makes excellent points in the introduction and warns that it is best to understand the details in the first 5 chapters before getting into the the rest of the book, which people often jump to in trying to interpret and apply.

The most important point is it’s a Revelation not a Hiding! So don’t ignore it.

Anyway if the Lord lingers there is time to work through it and perhaps 🤔 some years from not Dr. Dilday will finish the work. I recall even Matthew Henry never finished his own commentary on Revelation, and was added after his death.

3 As He was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”
4 And Jesus answered and said to them, “See to it that no one misleads you. 5 For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will mislead many. 6 You will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end. 7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes. 8 But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs. Matthew 24:3-8 (NASB)

I have been wanting to write about this…
