Luke 23:3 – The King

Let’s look at a couple of verses in today’s Luke text:

Luk 23:2  And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ a King.

Luk 23:3  And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered him and said, Thou sayest it.

Luke 23:38  And a superscription also was written over him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

Luke 23:47  Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man.

Mar 8:27  And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Caesarea Philippi: and by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Whom do men say that I am?

Mar 8:28  And they answered, John the Baptist: but some say, Elias; and others, One of the prophets.

Mar 8:29  And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ.

These verses paint a picture of who Jesus is, but this picture becomes even more clear as we open the Book of Revelation.

Revelation 1:5  And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,

This is where Jesus’ three fold office, as Prophet, Priest and King is revealed. And note that he is in fact “prince” aka king of the kings of the earth, not just the Jews.
