Over the years I’ve come back to these verses where Jesus twice describes the initial process of coming to faith.
Jhn 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
Jhn 6:65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.
It’s worth repeating…it says non man can come unto/to me…..
With that as context this makes for an interesting study on Preaching. (As an aside, I do find that the majority of today’s visible church preaching is about some aspect of get help with living in today’s world.)
Here is Paul’s passage being quoted:
1Co 2:1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.
1Co 2:2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
1Co 2:3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.
1Co 2:4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
1Co 2:5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
BTW if anyone is interested I did a series in an old men’s Bible Study about significant speeches in the Book of Acts.
It might be worth pulling up and reviewing in light of Paul’s statements about Preaching.
Now go back and read the first Part.
