Reflections on a Friday Morning….

Some random thoughts from Tahoe….sometimes the reflection is as good as the original…….

I seem to recall at least one person in our Sunday School Class seemed to reject most of the historical accounts in the Bible. Creation, Flood etc….I’m not sure if their opinion has changed.

Rom 1:19  Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.

Rom 1:20  For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

I plan on watching this 50 minute video…Dr. Andrew Snelling, who has a PhD in geology, I’ve seen before on the Is Genesis History series.

As for that series click the link to their resources…

I do recommend these, both the full videos and the shorter specific area video clips…most of these can be watched online. I do have DVD copies of the longer videos.

There is also a new lecture series that we are working through….

One might need a free account to access those. But they are free, either on the web, or via audio Podcast.

There is enough evidence here to almost cook a goose.

But no one can be persuaded to a Biblical Faith without God actually opening their heart. ❤️

Act 16:13  And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither.

Act 16:14  And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.

Act 16:15  And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.

Jhn 6:44  No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

Jhn 6:45  It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.

Jhn 6:64  But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him.Jhn 6:65  And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.

Jhn 6:66  From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.

Old John Gill has excellent commentary on those verses you can look up. Dr. S. Lewis Johnson also has an excellent set of sermons on John 6, which is among my favorites…

I also observe that the more I study the old doctrines of the Faith. That the richness of what we believe comes alive. Understanding the depth of God’s grace will directly lead us into the good things we want to do.  Perhaps one can see that in something as simple as the Westminster Shorter Catechism.

Pastor Ganger out at the little reformed church is teaching a series of evening sermons based on that.

Here are a few….particularly related to creation….and this questions…

As to why we study the Bible…there is no better passage than:

2Ti 3:15  And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

2Ti 3:16  All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

2Ti 3:17  That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

BTW….in his Bible study we are slowly working our way through this great book…it’s a great complement to his normal actual Bible studies. Plumer, summaries many historical Reformers, and historical Confessions and Catechisms explaining God’s Grace at great length in a years worth of Chapters…illuminating the many aspects of Grace, in it’s dimensions like Justification, sanctification, etc…

William Swan Plumer and his famous book, “The Grace of Christ, or, Sinners Saved by Unmerited Kindness”. It is a classic Christian book about God’s love and forgiveness. The book explains that everyone makes mistakes (sins), and no one can earn their way to heaven on their own. Instead, salvation is a free gift of unearned love (grace) given through Jesus Christ. You can find the full text of the book on Amazon, or read it digitally on Monergism.

I use the free Monegism PDF copy.
